Dr. Monica Gattinger is an award-winning researcher and highly sought-after speaker, strategic adviser and media commentator on energy. Her innovative research programme convenes business, government, Indigenous, civil society and academic leaders to address complex policy, regulatory and governance challenges. Monica Gattinger is Founding Chair of Positive Energy, Director of the Institute for Science, Society and Policy, and Full Professor at the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa. In these roles, she is committed to strengthening public and investor confidence in energy policy and regulation, notably for major energy projects, the intersection of energy and emissions reductions, public opinion and federal-provincial relations.

She holds a PhD in public policy from Carleton University. Monica Gattinger is Fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, board member of the Clean Resource Innovation Network, and serves on advisory committees to Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator, the National Research Council Canada, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, the Ontario Energy Board, the Ottawa Science Policy Network, the University of Calgary and Women in Nuclear Canada. She chaired the Council of Canadian Academies’ Expert Panel on International Science and Technology Partnerships and was a member of the Government of Ontario’s Electrification and Energy Transition Panel. Monica is a columnist for DOB Energy and she received the 2020 Clean50 Award for her thought leadership in the energy sector.

Outside of her professional life, Monica Gattinger is passionate about horseback riding and enjoys spending time in the great outdoors. She is a member of Women for Nature.

Bringing over three decades of extensive experience in the North American energy industry, Doreen Cole has held senior and executive leadership roles across the downstream, upstream, mining, power and utilities sectors. Most recently, she served as Executive Vice-President Downstream for Cenovus Energy, where she played a pivotal role in major operational and strategic initiatives, including the integration of Husky Energy upgrading and refining assets into Cenovus post-merger.

Prior to her tenor at Cenovus, Doreen was seconded from Suncor Energy as top executive officer of Syncrude Canada Ltd., following her time as Senior Vice-President, Maintenance and Reliability for Suncor’s oil sands assets. Her contributions at Suncor and Syncrude were marked by sustainable improvements in oil sands operations. Doreen’s early career experiences were shaped at Shell Canada and EPCOR, where she held several positions influencing operational excellence, business strategy, safety and environmental stewardship. Doreen holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Toronto and has an ICD.D designation from the Rotman School of Management.  She currently sits on the Boards of  RLG International, TWS (a global data and AI company), and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Stuart Cullum is an executive leader with experience in private industry as well as the finance, post-secondary, and not-for-profit sectors. Over the past 25 years, Stuart and his teams have established programming and centres for research, teaching and learning, company development and entrepreneurship – attracting partnerships and significant external investment.

Stuart joined Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) as President in August 2022 and is leading the institution through its transformation into a provincially focused polytechnic, concentrated in manufacturing, energy innovation, social innovation and healthcare and health technology.

Stuart came to RDP from Olds College of Agriculture and Technology, where he served as President since 2016. Stuart also served as Vice President Academic and Chief Operating Officer at Lethbridge College, Vice President Agriculture at Northlands, and Executive Director at novaNAIT, NAIT’s applied research and company development division.

An ICD.D Accredited Professional Director, Stuart has extensive board and committee experience. He serves on various boards including with Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), Covenant Health, the Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN), and the Post-Secondary International Network (PIN). He also serves on the Alberta Public Sector Employers’ Council and was a member of the Alberta’s Skills for Jobs Taskforce.

Steven Kelly is a Chemical Engineer with over 40 years of energy industry expertise. Steven earned B.Eng. (Chemical) and M.Eng. degrees from McMaster University, and an MBA from the University of Calgary. He started his career in the downstream (refining) division of Shell Canada, progressing through various technical roles. In 1996, Steven joined Purvin & Gertz Inc. (PGI), an independent energy consulting firm that provided strategic, commercial, and technical advice to a diverse international client base. He assumed management of the firm’s Canadian operations and advanced to the role of director. Steven joined IHS Inc. as a Vice President after their acquisition of PGI in 2011. He was appointed as a permanent Member of the National Energy Board in 2015. Since 2022, Steven has been a part-time member of the Alberta Land and Property Rights Tribunal, where he focuses on surface rights matters, as well as development and assessment appeals. In his spare time, Steven is active in his community association and in amateur athletics. He also enjoys non-fiction writing, photography and golf.

Kelly J. Ogle is the Chief Executive Officer of the CGAI. He also manages the Energy Security Forum and is the host of Energy Security Cubed, a weekly podcast discussing all facets of energy security. Mr. Ogle is a serial entrepreneur, scholar, and published author. He has served as a board member of several companies, public, private and not for profit, including the board of the Humboldt Broncos hockey club, where is a proud alumnus. Mr. Ogle received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan, a Master of Strategic Studies from the University of Calgary and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Canadian Directors.

Hon. Sonya Savage, KC, is Senior Counsel in the Calgary office of Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), where her extensive public, corporate and private practice experience provides a unique and valuable perspective to the firm’s clients.

Prior to returning to the legal practice in 2023, Ms. Savage served as Minister of Energy, Minister of the Environment and Protected Areas and Minister of Justice in the government of Alberta. As Minister of Environment, she developed Alberta’s 2023 climate strategy and modernized Alberta’s industrial carbon pricing and emissions trading system (TIER). As Minister of Energy, she oversaw the province’s oil and gas and minerals resources and led the development of legal, policy and fiscal frameworks for emerging growth areas including critical minerals, CCUS, hydrogen, geothermal, small modular reactors (SMRs) and electricity generation, storage, transmission and distribution. Previously she worked in the corporate sector as a senior executive for the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association and Enbridge.

In addition to her legal work at Borden Ladner Gervais, she serves on the Board of Directors for Enmax, E3 Lithium Inc. and Critical Minerals Americas Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Energy and Environment from the University of Calgary, publishing her Masters’ thesis in 2015 on the evolving role of Canada’s energy regulator, the National Energy Board. She was appointed to the King’s Counsel (KC) in 2022.

Arlene Strom’s career reflects a dedication to community engagement, life-long learning and pursuing her passions. With a career spanning over three decades, Arlene’s journey at Suncor began in 2003, when she joined the corporate legal group. Her professional evolution at Suncor saw her take on numerous key leadership roles, culminating in positions as Chief Sustainability Officer, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary.

Before her work at Suncor, Strom practiced corporate and securities law in Calgary, where she laid the foundation for her future leadership roles. In late 2023, she retired from Suncor and spent the following year as a fellow in the Advanced Leadership Initiative at Harvard University, further developing her expertise in leadership and global sustainability.

In addition to her corporate career, Arlene is deeply committed to community service. She chairs the Alberta Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Awards Foundation, the Energy Technology Centre, is a board member of Nature Conservancy Canada and an advisory board member of Portage Energy. Her passion for making a positive impact is evident in her leadership roles outside of the corporate world. At Suncor, Arlene served as Chair of the Suncor Energy Foundation, the Suncor Inclusion and Diversity Council, and was a co-pipe carrier for the Indigenous Youth Advisory Council demonstrating her commitment to fostering inclusive communities.

Strom holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Trinity Western University, a Master of Arts in Public Policy, and an LLB from the University of British Columbia, which have all contributed to her strong foundation in leadership and public service. Her career and service stand as a testament to her dedication to driving change, fostering collaboration, and making meaningful contributions to society.
